Gettting Started

During the final months of the restoration of our 1966 Tradewind we came across a 1959 Traveler that had been partially restored by another member of the forum.  He had done all the hard stuff: frame repair, new subfloor and flooring, new external aluminum panels, door in door rebuild (with porthole), removal of zillion layers of paint and wallpaper off the inside end caps.  He lined the inside with birch walls, built beautiful birch cabinetry and made a very cool retro aluminum refrigerator door covering. However, his family outgrew the trailer before he could finish the systems and trim work.

We decided to purchase it and named the trailer Pickles which was close to the original name but also a tribute to my Mom who established the "Dill Pickle Club" with me and my daughter when she was little.

After towing Pickles home the first order of business was a new axle and electric brakes that we ordered through a local company, DeHaven's Trailer Sales.  We also replaced the tires.

Second order of business was the water. We installed a water heater and pex lines to the sink.  The drain pipe and vent were already there but the gray water tank needed a gate valve.   A closer inspection of the location of the gray water tank showed that the opening for black water tank drain was going to need to be changed because it was too close to the gray water opening.
